Window Box Garden

I've always been interested in Urban Agriculture, finding ways for people to garden, and grow their own food no matter where they are. Grow lamps, self watering planters, vermicompost are some things I've used in apartments, but I haven't yet experimented with hydroponics. Watched this Ted Talk today about windowfarms.org, sounds like people with great ideas doing it right, they make available online clear instructions, and provide a area to share and build on each others ideas. I don't live in an apartment these days, but do move around a bit, and may use this as a portable garden idea. The  only restriction i can see with this is they rely on an electric pump, i think there are some ideas on the website for solar powered designs, if i get around to trying this out some day I'd probably look more into that.

  1. This is a great topic! In a climate like ours, we should have much more indoor agriculture. I would love to see farmer's markets extended for more than 2-3 months of the year.

Have you heard of Omega Garden (omegagarden.com). Probably not your thing, because it's getting into industrial scale, but I just think they're so cool to look at. I first saw them on an episode of Stargate. I did some research a while back into making a business of large-scale indoor gardening. It still looks like a great idea for someone with enough money they can afford to wait a few years to see profits (so obviously no good for me)!
